Sometimes it can be intimidating trying to find an improv comedy class that is fit for you. You might find that there are tons of places that supply improv classes, but this is normally found in the bigger cities. If you live in a small town you might find it harder to find a class to join in that has all that you are looking for.
Here are some tips to help you find the perfect improv class for you:
1. You want to go to a local theater that has improv show first and get a sense of what the local improv groups are like. You should have a feeling like to want to jump in and get involved when watching the skits that they are putting on. If this is not the feeling that you get, then it is better to go about other ways to look for local improv comedy classes.
2. If you really enjoyed the local improv show, wait and speak with the members of the improv group. You can ask them questions like where they got their start and what they enjoy about the local improv classes. The main idea is for you to get an idea of what your town has locally that you can attend. If they are not based locally, but you are willing to travel then you can still ask them were they started doing improve comedy classes at.
3. Once you have found some improv classes that meet your needs, give them a call and find out what their classes are really about and what style of improv comedy that their school does. You want to pick a class that is the style that you want to be acting in.
4. Find out if the classes fit into your schedule. You want to find the classes that fit into your schedule so that you can participate as much as possible and be able to get a better understanding of what improve comedy really is and how to act on the spot without having a script telling you want to do.
5. Improv is something that cannot be taught in a day; it is something that you will have to work with over time. Before you sign up for a comedy class, be assured that you plan to stick with it.
Improv comedy is something that takes time and you have to be willing to stick with it. You might find through your search that there are more local improv classes then you thought. It is always a good idea to call up these places before registering to get an idea of what their classes are all about. If you find one that you really like you should attend a class and see if you really want to be a part of this class or if it is not the path for you.
